Tax Credit time!

It’s Tax Credit season again, and we want your help. Each homeroom class is in the running for an Ice Cream Party - the top three classes that bring in the most Tax Credits win!

·       Each year we reach out to our families and community members and ask them to support Archway by donating to the Tax Credit program.  All the money raised from this program goes to supporting the many extracurricular activities at the school – such as art club, string ensembles and sports, and our on-campus visits from the symphony, opera and ballet.

·       And one of the best parts of this program is that it costs you nothing!  The State of Arizona allows you to receive a dollar-for-dollar credit on your state taxes for every dollar you donate to Tax Credit – up to $200 for an individual or $400 for a married couple filing jointly.

·       You can make your Tax Credit gift online.  If you prefer, you may complete our Tax Credit form and mail your gift to the school.

4th grade:

This week we finished up Unit 2 by learning about the verb estar and a few more people who work in our communities and their jobs.  On Friday they will work on a practice test, which will be due on Tuesday, 12/6 so that we can go over it in class as a review.  The Fourth Grade Unit 2 test will be Friday, December 9.  Their homework from today is pages 29 and 30 in their workbooks.  It is due next Tuesday, 12/6.  I will have all the Unit 2 Quizlets up in the next couple days.

Week of November 7-11, 2016

Good morning!  Here are the updates for this week.

3rd Grade:  We have been working on our community vocabulary and different sounds in the Spanish language.  They were given ten minutes in class to complete Workbook pages 22 and 23, and they should have 22-24 completed for Thursday.  In class on Thursday, we will go over and practice clothing items with colors.  They will have time to complete WB page 25 in class, but if they do not, please make sure it's completed by Monday.

4th Grade:  We had to change some things around because I had to give them their classroom spelling bee quizzes on Thursday.  We completed that, and then I gave them their project instructions.  I told them it was due on Friday, instead of Tuesday, forgetting that we do not have school on Friday.  Please make sure they complete it by Tuesday, 11/15.  I will not be at school that day, as my sister is getting married up in Utah, but it will be collected.

5th Grade:  We finished up talking about rooms and activities around the house, and today we learned about La Alhambra, in Granada, Spain.  We watched a video about the different rooms, patios, and architecture.  They should have WB page 23C and all of WB p 24 completed by Tuesday, 11/15.

I will be out of town for my sister's wedding on Tuesday, 11/15.  The fourth and fifth graders will have an independent assignment to work on during Spanish class.  We will pick back up with the curriculum on Friday.  My absence will not affect the third graders at all.

Thank you, have a great week, and as always, let me know if you have any questions!

Week of October 31-November 4, 2016

3rd grade:

On Monday, we learned about Day of the Dead, and the students were able to work on coloring a sugar skull and other Day of the Dead pictures.  We will be starting our new vocabulary on Thursday by learning about different locations around our communities and the people that work in them.  The new quizlet can be found here.  Workbook pages 22-24 should be completed by next Thursday.  We will work on them in class, but if they aren't completed in class, they should be completed during Lyceum or for homework.

4th grade:

I was ill on Friday afternoon, so the students were given some information and activities about Paraguay, which is the country we are learning about right now.  Today, we will be learning about the Day of the Dead.  On Friday, we will dedicate that class period to working on the Town Design project.  It will be due next Tuesday, when we will begin our new vocabulary, which is clothing and colors.  I will put up the new quizlet once we start.

5th grade:

Today we learned about the Day of the Dead.  The students were able to work on their clothing store project while watching a video.  The project is due this Friday.  It was assigned last Friday, so hopefully they have been working on it.  On Friday, we will begin our new vocabulary by learning about activities we do in each room of our home.  For example, we prepare food in the kitchen (preparar la comida en la cocina.)  We will also learn about the sounds "que" and "qui," and discuss La Alhambra, which is a famous location in Granada, Spain.  The new quizlet can be found here.  Workbook pages 22-23 will be due next Tuesday, November 8.

October 24 - 28, 2016

Hello!  I hope everyone had a great weekend.

3rd grade:  Last Thursday we started our study of La Casa (the house) and our review of Los Colores (the colors).  We have completed WB p 19, and they were given about ten minutes in class today to complete a House Activity.  They should draw and label each room, plus the garden (in Spanish), and then color it.  There are five sentences that tell them what color certain items should be, but other than those, they can color everything else any color they would like.  It will be due Thursday, so encourage them to work on it during Lyceum and not to wait until Wednesday.  I had several students complete the activity in the ten minutes given, so it should not be a time consuming activity.  This Thursday, we will be learning how to say that we like something, and if we have time, a little more about Argentina.

4th grade:  Last Friday, we learned some new prepositions of place and also some stores and other locations found in our neighborhoods.  We will add in some house vocabulary on Tuesday, and we will do a couple readings to practice them.  On Friday, we will do a "Design your own neighborhood" activity, which will be homework if it's not completed in class.

5th grade:  Last Friday, we reviewed colors and clothing.  We will add in some weather vocabulary on Tuesday, and will do a couple readings to practice them.  On Friday, we will do an activity in which the students can design their own clothing store.  It will be homework if it's not completed in class.

Happy Friday before Fall Break!!!

I just wanted to let you know that everyone took their tests this week, and I graded them and sent them home yesterday and today.  I asked the students to put them in their take home folders, so hopefully you will be able to review their tests with them.

Overall, I was very pleased with the exam grades, and I am looking forward to second quarter!

Have a WONDERFUL fall break.  :)

Grade 5:  WB pages 15-16 should be done by Friday.  We will review for the Unit 1 test, which will be on Tuesday, October 4.  All of the quizlets are up and found to the left.

September 12-16, 2016

Hello!  I apologize for the radio silence.  I am wearing a few too many hats right now!  :)

All three grades are beginning Unit 1, Part 3 this week.  I was hoping to be further along in our curriculum, but with typing on Wednesdays, I now only see the students twice per week.  I would rather focus on quality, as opposed to quantity, so I'm hoping to get at least one unit done per quarter.
That being said, we will push through parts 3 and 4, and our Unit 1 test will be on the following dates:

Grade 3 - Monday, October 3
Grades 4 and 5 - Tuesday, October 4

I have linked all of the Unit 1 Quizlets to the left.  Please be sure your student is practicing these words as we go through the Unit, so that they aren't left cramming for the Unit exam in two weeks.

Lastly, I will be sending home deficiencies this week for any student that currently has a D or an F in Spanish class.  I will also be sending an email for any student that currently has a C.  If you don't hear from me, that means your student currently has a B or an A.  I will, of course, let you know if that grade drops.

Thanks for everything, and have a wonderful week!

Hello everyone!

We've had a great couple weeks in Spanish class.  We've been getting to know each other, our procedures, and we've been working with the alphabet and greetings.  The students received their workbooks this week.  THIRD GRADE has started working on it in class, and FOURTH and FIFTH GRADE will have their first homework assignment this weekend.

Our first vocabulary quiz will be next Thursday, September 1 for Third Grade, and Friday, September 2, for Fourth and Fifth grade.  It will include the alphabet and also Vocabulary 1.1.  I will have wordlists and quizlets available at the start of next week.  In the meantime, they should be using the notes in their spirals to practice and study.

Thank you so much and have a wonderful weekend!  Let me know if you have any questions.

Welcome to Spanish Class 2016-2017!!

¡Hola!

I am so excited to be able to start the year off with the scholars, and I am looking forward to a wonderful school year.  :)

In all three grade levels on Monday and Tuesday, we went over expectations, materials, and our Spanish Class Contract.  Please review the contract with your scholars, sign, and return.

Several students did not have their materials for class.  Be sure to send their Spanish folder and spiral notebooks to school with them, so they have everything that they need.

On Thursday and Friday, we will be reviewing classroom commands and the alphabet.  We will start our curriculum on Monday!

Below you will find links to all the documents passed out this week for your convenience, and also a Quizlet set for practicing the alphabet.
